Women's B Grade Weekly Write Up

The Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade play in Division 5 FFSA League and are looking for a bigger 2nd season in the league

League Round #13

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Adelaide Jaguars

Date:  8th September2023

Location: Away

It would be a quick turn around for the girls with the Foxes playing again Friday night against their rival of the season Adelaide Jaguars but the short turn around time would hurt the Foxes who would eventually go down 3 – 1 in their last game of the season.

The Jaguars and foxes had battled it out a few times this season and the foxes would take that grudge into the game with them looking to get off to a quick start.

And it would be a dominant early display from the foxes with the Foxes forwards raining shot after shot down on the Jaguars goal but the deadlock would seemingly be broken when a long range Nikiia effort would cannon off the keeper and bounce over the line but the spin on the ball would bring the ball back into the play for the keeper to collect and despite the Foxes protests of the goal clearly going over the line the Referee decided it didn’t and the deadlock would remain.

This would fire up the foxes who would rain shot after shot after shot on the Jaguars goal with some from close range and some from distance but none able to find the back of the net.

The Jaguars came to life late in the half and they would break through the Foxes backline but the Foxes would have a stroke of luck with the Jaguars shot hitting the cross bar twice and eventually going out of play instead of in for a goal.

Eventually the Foxes would find the breakthrough they were looking for with a breakaway down the left-hand side of the field finding Tahlia who would first time volley her shot past the keeper and giving the foxes the 1 – 0 lead heading into half time.

The Second half would see the Jaguars come out the stronger team and the Foxes would find themselves defending a lot more than they did in the first.

With the Foxes defense struggling to keep the ball away from Maddie in goals eventually it would be a through ball that would lead the Jaguars striker 1 on 1 with Maddie in goals and the striker would make no mistake finishing past the stranded Foxes keeper.

The foxes tried to wrestle back the momentum of the game but just couldn’t get the game to turn to their side with a few more chances going wide and just not in the goal.

And as has become the tradition with the Jaguars team the late game the Jaguars would eventually break through the Foxes defense and despite the Foxes defense scrambling to get back, they would eventually score again.

The foxes would find themselves picking the ball out of the back of the net again 4 minutes later as the Jaguars would take control of the game and finish off the Foxes with a 3rd goal.

Goal Scorers

Tahlia Kargiannis – 1 Goal

It ended up a sad end to the season for the foxes who would end up 3rd in their bottom half division.

After a rough year for the foxes Women the team rallied and showed major improvement from last season and can look back on the year with pride and look forward to a stronger year next year.

League Round #12

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Salisbury Villa

Date: 5th September 2023

Location: The Den

The Women’s B Grade would go into this week with a double header of games to round out their disjointed and tough season. Tuesday night would see them take on Salisbury Villa at home under lights and end up 5 – 3 winners.

The game would start with the Foxes in control with their speed out wide causing villa all kinds of problems and the first goal would come from Nikiia with her long-range effort having too much power on it for the keeper to hold onto.

But as soon as the Foxes would take the lead, they would be pegged back with the defense cause napping and Maddie being beaten at her front post to restore parity between the 2 teams.

The game would stay locked up for a while with the Foxes missing a handful of chances in front of goal.

But it would be the ever-reliable Nikiia who would break the deadlock with her shot from almost the same position on the field finding the back of the net cleanly this time and separating the 2 teams.

The foxes wouldn’t get caught this time round with Dayna adding another to the scoresheet finishing at close range past the Villa keeper.

The next goal would be the goal that would decide the game and it would come from Tamika and her 25-yard-long range effort would find the inside of the post and into the net to give the Foxes a 4 – 1 lead.

But the Foxes weren’t done yet with young Sophie getting on the scoresheet herself finishing past the Villa keeper to make it 5 – 1.

But Villa was not done with the game yet managing to pull back 2 goals late in the game but the damage was done and the time left on the clock was minimal and Villa would not be able to catch the Foxes after their dominant display.

Goal Scorers

Nikiia Frencken – 2 Goals

Tamika Dommerdich – 1 Goal

Sophie Hutchins – 1 Goal

Dayna Duka – 1 Goal

The Result was only half of the Foxes action for the wee but would give the Girls the confidence they would need heading into their final game of the season Friday night.

League Round #11

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Elizabeth Vale

Date:  6th August 2023

Location: Away

It was back on the pitch for the first time in 5 weeks after their Mid-Season break and the girls went away to Elizabeth Vale and went down 3 – 1.

The game would start with the Foxes looking like they had every bit of a 5 week break off with them on the backfoot and down 1 -0 early within the first 2 mins of the game.

This would spark the Foxes to wake up as they had to fight their way back into the game and would start to create chances but would be unable to score them.

The first half would be a struggle for the Foxes with the defense having to work extra hard and young keeper Maddie having to pull of some great saves to keep the deficit at 1 heading into the half time break.

The second half would start off better for the foxes with some early chances falling their way but again they would be unable to capitalize on them and bring the game back level.

But it would be disaster for the Foxes that would come next with Jordy chasing down a ball on the left-hand side of the field and her awkward fall would leave her with a very badly broken Ankle and would see the game halted for over 30 mins to attend to her and get her medical attention.

The injury fired up the Foxes to fight for their team mate and they would start to put on the pressure and create a batch of chances and after a bunch of saves and missed shots eventually a great chance would fall to Tahlia at the back post which she would make no mistake of finishing into the Elizabeth Vale goal.

But the lead wouldn’t last long with the defense switching off and letting in an easy chance with the Elizabeth Vale striker tapping home from close range at the back post.

The Foxes would continue to try and push back and get back level but after a captain Nat took a huge clearance to the face her game would be over leaving the Foxes with another player down and out.

After a lot of building up and great chances including 4 missed tap ins, 3 1 on 1 chances and some missed passing opportunities the game looked like it was not meant to be for the Foxes.

Eventually the game would be put to bed with a simple cross into the box coming off the Foxes defenders head and the ball would slide past Maddie in goals giving the Elizabeth Vale team a 3-1 lead and closing out the game.

The Foxes would continue to try and get a goal back with a missed Dayna 1 on 1 and a shot coming off the inside of the post but eluding a Foxes player to be able to tap it home the day just looked to be done.

Goal Scorers

Tahlia Kargiannis – 1 Goal

The Foxes played their hearts out but it wasn’t meant to be, they look to get back on the training ground and work on their play a bit more in preparation for their next game.

League Round #10

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Pontian Eagles

Date:  30th June 2023

Location: The Den

It was a must win game for the Foxes against Pontian Eagles and that’s exactly what they did coming away 4-1 winners.

The game started favorably for the Foxes with the midfield battle being won by Captain Nat and her midfield team.

Early game the foxes would create multiple chances to score with the foxes missing 2 back post tap ins within the first 15 minutes of the game.

It would be the wide strikers that would continue to cause the Pontian backline havoc.

Eventually the Foxes would capitalize on their chances with a Tamika corner to much for the keeper to handle and would spill it into the path of Simone to happily tap the ball into the net.

It wouldn’t take long before the Foxes would double their lead and it would be Tamika who would be in the middle of it again this time scoring from the right-hand side of the box over the keeper.

The Eagles would have a few chances but the Foxes defense and keeper would keep their chances at bay, this was until a defensive mistake and some dwelling on the lose ball would be stolen by the Eagles player who would find the striker and her shot would go past Maddy in goals reducing the Foxes lead.

Half time would come around and the Foxes would take their 2-1 lead into the break to gather some energy and regain their game plan.

The second half would play out similar to the first half with the foxes in control of the game with the occasional Eagles chance.

The Foxes defense would remain controlled and very rarely conceding any real chances on goal.

While the Foxes would go in the opposite direction and be creating a ton of chance on the Eagles goal.

I would be until young Sophie would step up and find some space in behind the Eagles defense and her shot would curl in of the inside of the post to give the Foxes a 3 – 1 lead.

Not happy with a 2 goal lead the Foxes decided to make it another one with the ball finding its way to the top of the box from a corner where Sophie would be waiting to have a hit and would score past the keeper to get her 2nd goal of the game.

It was an excellent game for the Foxes and moved them into the top 6 and into a potential playoff position.

Goal Scorers

Sophie Hutchins – 2 Goals

Tamika Dommerdich – 1 Goals

Simone Garrard – 1 Goal

The result gets the foxes back to winning ways but they now face a bit of a wait for their next game as they wait for the other teams in the league to play al their remaining matches before a potential 2nd round of games of a play-off, to be honest we don’t really know and as soon as we do, we will let you all know too.

League Round #9

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Adelaide Dragons

Date:  24th June 2023

Location: Away

The Women’s B Grade went away on a Saturday night to take on the undefeated top of the table Adelaide Dragons and the girls put up a massive fight to score them but eventually going down 4-2.

It was an unusual time slot for the foxes to play in with a Saturday night game and the Foxes took a bare 13 players to take on the top of the Table Dragons.

The Foxes started as the stronger team and took the lead through Nikiia when her long-range effort flew over the keeper’s head into the back of the net. This goal let the Dragons know the Foxes were here for a solid game and ready to play.

After the Dragons worked their way into the game a bit they would create a few chances on goal but the Foxes keeper Maddie would step up and protect her teams lead.

The Foxes would change formation and go into an attacking style of play and would start ot take over the game creating problems for the Dragons defense.

Late in the half a great ball from Nikiia would go flying into the 6 yard box but the Foxes strikers were unable to put the ball in the net.

In the 2nd half the Dragons would come out firing and when their attacker would find some space her shot would find the back of the net.

The game would start to slip away from the Foxes with a long range effort from the Dragons would find the top corner of the goal giving the Dragons the lead.

They would then pile on 2 more efforts on goal making the deficit 4 – 1, but the Foxes wouldn’t stop fighting with a thunderbolt of a shot from Tamika to much or the keeper to handle and would bring the score back to 4-2

Even late in the game the Foxes would keep pressing for another goal and when a clear penalty for taking out the Foxes striker in the box was not given and incorrectly called a free kick the Foxes would subsequently go wide and the ref would call the game 5 minutes early setting off the Foxes and the sidelines.

But all in all, the Foxes would put up a hard-fought battle against the top of the table Dragons and be even more prepared for them the next time they face eachother.

Goal Scorers

Nikiia Frencken – 1 Goal

Tamika Dommerdich – 1 Goal

The Foxes will look to take on Pontian eagles this First night at home at the Den looking to get back in the winner’s circle

League Round #8

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Munno Para

Date:  2nd June 2023

Location: The Den

It was touted to be a shootout and that’s exactly what this game turned out to be with the Foxes going down 4 – 3 after fighting back from a 3 – 0 deficit.

Munno para was always going to be a tough game with the foxes loosing to them 8-0 last year, so they were looking to prove themselves and show how far they have come since last year.

And that’s exactly how the game went. Although it the Foxes wouldn’t find themselves on the backfoot quickly with Munno getting an early goal.

It was mainly Foxes defensive errors which lead to the Munno goals so the foxes were going to need to tighten up their passing, physicality on the ball and positioning if they were to get back in the game.

The first goal of the game was a front post cross that the Munno striker would get in front of Maddy in goals and tap it home.

The 2nd goal was the foxes not able to clear their line from a shot giving Munno a 2 – 0 lead.

With the foxes then going down 3 – 0 after the ball was stolen on the edge of the box and fired past the keeper.

The game wasn’t going well for the Foxes with halftime still 10 mins away and the possibility of more goals very much on the cards.

But the foxes dug in and decided to switch on and once the midfielders started to get on the ball the Foxes were able to create some attacks of their own.

It would be the new girl Sarah who would open her account with a Goal of the Month contender scoring on the run-in full sprint from 25 yards out to put it into the far top corner.

After scoring such a great goal the Foxes would push some more and this time it would be Shikira who would set her sights on te goal and would find the back of the net for the 2nd week in a row.

The goal would bring the Foxes back within contention as Halftime was here with the Foxes going in 3 – 2 down.

The 2nd half the Foxes would come out firing with the Midfield causing Munno a bunch of problems and having difficulties stopping the run the Foxes were creating.

And it wouldn’t be long before Dayna would do what Dayna does and sprint past the Munno defense and finish past the Munno keeper to rack up her 9th goal of the season.

The Foxes should have been in the lead when a through ball would find Tahlia but only for the ref to incorrectly call an offside killing the Foxes break and potential 1on1 chance.

But the game wasn’t meant to be with a late Munno chance down the right wing with a powerful shot going across the Foxes keeper into the far post restoring the Munno lead.

It may have been 4 – 3 loss but the Foxes showed resilience and fortitude in the game coming back from 3 – 0 down to level it up in a game where the Foxes from last year might have just rolled over and copped a bunch more goals.

This improvement shows how far the Foxes have come in such a short period of time and how deadly they have become upfront.

Goal Scorers

Dayna Dulka – 1 Goal

Shikira Hill – 1 Goal

Sarah Goern – 1 Goal

The result is a disappointing one for the foxes where they deserved atleast a point from the game but the fight and resilience the foxes are showing week in week out proves they have come together as a team and are starting to figure out how they can win a lot of games.

The Foxes now have a break for the June long weekend with their next game against top of the table and very tough Adelaide Dragons. The Foxes will look to dent their season inflicting their first loss of points all year.

League Round #7

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Virginia

Date:  26th May 2023

Location: Away

The game against our local rivals is always one we want to win but this weekend turned out it wasn’t meant to be for the Foxes going down 2 – 1 after putting up a gallant effort against a physical Virginia team.

A Friday night game is always a great time to play, and this week was no exception. The Foxes would head out with a very strong squad against our local rivals and would spend the first half throwing themselves into every 50 / 50 tackle not wanting to give an each to Virginia.

The best chance of the early game would fall to the Foxes with Dayna running in on the Virginia goal but she would eventually put her shot wide and not trouble the keeper.

There was a clear game plan for the foxes and that was to limit the open chances from range for Virginia’s dangerous striker and for the first 40 minutes they did exactly that, it was until a foul was made about 40 yards out which she would step up to take.

An excellent long-range shot would sail in over Maddy in goal causing the Foxes to go down 1 – 0 at the half time break.

After a chat from Coach matt about the revision of their tactic to not give the Virginia striker a long-range chance the Foxes would go out in the 2nd half and open up their own attacking plays from wide positions.

This would be how the Foxes would get themselves back into the game with Shikira collecting the ball wide driving past the midfield of Virginia and her long-range effort would float in over the Virginia Goal Keeper.

The foxes would hold their lead for 15 Minutes and start to impose themselves on the game further but a mistake off the ball and the Virginia striker would get free from her defender and unload from range and again put it over the Foxes keeper and restore the Virginia lead once again.

Despite a gallant fight till the very end the Foxes would be unable to draw back level and would eventually go down 2 – 1.

Goal Scorers

Shikira Hill

It was a disappointing result for the Foxes going down against our Rivals but a result the Foxes will bounce back from in their upcoming fixture against Munno Para this Friday at the Den.

League Round #6

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Elizabeth Vale

Date:  19th May 2023

Location: The Den

The Women’s B Grade went into the game against bottom of the table Elizabeth Vale looking to make a statement and get their first league win of the season and they did just that coming away with a massive 7 – 3 win moving them up to 6th place on the ladder.

The Friday night started off cold and covered in mist making visibility hard for both teams, but it was the Foxes who came out with the speed and quality needed to be in control of the early game.

The early game saw a lot of early attacks with both defenses holding firm and shutting out the attackers.

Early on the Foxes would create a couple 1 on 1 chances against the Vale keeper but would fail to score.

But it was the new girl Natalia who showed a cool head and picked her spot from outside the box and put the ball into the back of the net to give the Foxes the early lead in the 21st Min.

This gave the Foxes a push of confidence and goal scoring machine Dayna would take advantage of a gap in the Vale defense and burst through with her speed and put the ball in the goal past the keeper.

But it would be Vale who would return fire and get a goal back from a corner which was failed to be cleared by the Foxes defense.

This would annoy the Foxes and would send Dayna into overdrive with her scoring a massive 5 more goals for the night.

Despite the Foxes scoring the Vale team would not go away as easily as thought and would hit back quickly to make the gap only ever 2 goals until the 5th goal from the Foxes would go in and they would continue to pour on the goals and pull away.

In a night where visibility was low, the Foxes Defense, Midfield and Forward line would work together very well and cover eachother while making chances which were expertly taken.

Play f the game would be in the 65th min where a Vale penalty was awarded and despite the striker putting the ball into the bottom corner Maddy would guess the right side and get down low and save the penalty pushing it around the post making her dad and Coach very proud.

Goal Scorers

Natalia Caminiti – 1 goal.

Dayna Stunnell – 6 Goals

It would be an excellent result for the Foxes and the win they deserved all season and managed to do it in style and boost them right up the table to 6th place.

The Foxes now head away to Virginia Friday night looking to get back-to-back wins over our local rivals and continue their push up the table.

League Round #5

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Adelaide Jaguars

Date:  7th May 2023

Location: Away

It was another weekend and another tough battle for the Foxes B Grade women who went to Jaguars looking for revenge after being knocked out of the cup by them earlier in the season.

The Foxes started the stronger of the 2 teams immediately going on the attack and narrowly missed a couple chances to go ahead.

But it wasn’t long before Dayna continued her great run of form scoring again going through 1 on 1 with the keeper and putting it past her.

After the kickoff the Jaguars attackers and specifically the striker causing the Foxes defense some problems but the defense held up and managed to soak up the pressure.

After a sustained period of pressure, the Foxes got back in control of the game and it would be Tahlia and Ebony who would go close next with both of the girls hitting the woodwork.

But it would take till the 24th min where Captain Nat would slot a ball between the Jaguars defense and sending through Tahlia to go 1 on 1 with the keeper and managed to score her first goal of the season and give the Foxes a solid 2 – 0 lead.

The lead wouldn’t last long though as the Jaguars midfielder would take a 30-yard pop shot and loop the ball over the Foxes keeper halving the Foxes lead.

After this the game would become a lot more open and end to end and right on the halftime whistle Tennille would go down injured weakening the Foxes bench for the 2nd half.

The 2nd half would see the Foxes come out much like they did in the first with 4 great chances flashing wide of the Jaguars goal.

An injury to Rachel would see the Foxes go down another player and leave the bench completely depleted.

Despite their lack of depth, the Foxes battled on for the 2nd half trying to defend their lead.

The game was almost won when Tahlia broke through the Jaguars backline and went 1 on 1 with the keeper in a foot race to the ball only to be cleaned up and no foul given.

The rebounding play would see the Jaguars end up with a free kick in shooting range at the other end.

It would turn out to be the equalizing goal with the Jaguars player hitting a thunderbolt of a shot over the wall and into the goal to level the game.

The remainder of the game would be scrappy as both teams were tired and unable to create any more real clear chances but it would be a good redemption result for the Foxes after their exit at the hands of the Jaguars in the cup.

Goal Scorers

Dayna 1 Goal

Tahlia 1 Goal

The Women’s B Grade continue to search for their first win of the season but this hard-fought battle showed again the fight and resilience they have in them, so the 3 points won’t be far away.
The B Grade have a bye this weekend after their last round cup exit so a week to relax and heal from Injuries will help the girls get back on the park in the next game and get the win.

League Round #4

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Modbury Jets

Date:  28th April 2023

Location: The Den

The dream start to the season for the B Grade Women came to a end on Friday night against tough Modbury Jets team going down 4 – 0.

Friday night is usually the Foxes night under lights at home but this weekend it wasn’t the case. The underdog Foxes would go up against a tough Modbury Jets squad.

The game would kick off with some hard tackles being laid by both teams and would set the tone of the whole game.

With the game being an end-to-end affair with both teams missing some early chances to pull away.

But it would be Modbury who would strike first after some slick inter play, they found their striker unmarked and she would smash the ball past the Foxes goal keeper.

The Foxes would rally and try to pull level but unable to create anything other than half chances.

It would seem that luck wouldn’t be with the Foxes in the game where a shot from the Modbury attacker would take a nasty deflection of the Foxes’ defenders and send it past Maddy in goals making it 2 – 0

After a half-time team talk and Matt asking for more energy and physicality from his girls, they came out firing and gave just that with an improvement in energy levels across the team which caused to game to get a little bit fiery with hard tackles being laid across the park.

But all the hard effort would be mute with a corner falling to the Jets striker and passing the ball into the open net making it 3 – 0.

And in quick succession the Jets would fire again on a deflated Foxes team firing a shot past the Foxes defense making it a 4 – 0 loss for the girls and their first for the league season.

It was a tough game for the foxes but a gallant effort against a team that had been smashing other teams in the league. The Foxes head off to Adelaide Jaguars looking for some revenge after their earlier cup defeat at their hands and to find themselves back on the winners list.

League Round #3

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Salisbury Inter

Date:  25th April 2023

Location: Away

Night games are always the best games in my opinion and Monday Night Football is the best of the lot.

Matt has got his girls so defensively solid they are becoming really difficult to breakdown and after another defensive masterclass and another frustrated opponent you can see clearly the work Matt and the Girls have done on the training pitch paying off.

In a game against an opposition who in the past have smashed a bag of goals past the B Grade Women the team that stepped on the park this time round were more experienced, more positionally aware, ready to fight and confident in their abilities.

Young Maddy in goals had another excellent game pulling of multiple saves with supreme confidence but it was the defensive unit that protected her goal with their lives and threw themselves at every tackle and went in hard on every 50/50 challenge.

Despite having their chances, the foxes were unable to break the deadlock even after hitting the cross bar and coming super close to doing so in the 2nd half of the game.

But keeping a clean sheet and defending resolutely is the basis in which the girls will build from. Nat the captain of the team has got her midfield working harder than ever before and everyone on the park puts in 100% effort each and every game and this is what helps keep the games between the Midfield and Defense tight and hard to penetrate.

This start to the season has the girls undefeated in the league and only Adelaide Dragon Warriors can boast that record.

Once the foxes start finding the back of the net, they will be a very difficult team to stop this year.

Another excellent performance from the girls and they will look to continue this hard work on Friday night with the double header game taking place at the Den with the Women’s B Grade taking on Modbury Jets.

Cup Round #2

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Adelaide Jaguars

Date:  16th April 2023

Location: Adelaide Jaguars

It was another huge game for the Women’s B Grade who put up a mammoth effort in the Cup but it eventually resulted in heartbreak with the girls conceded in the 98th min of Extra Time to lose 1 – 0 and find themselves out of the cup.

It was a tough start for the Foxes with the girls lining up with just 13 players form kick-off who met a fully stacked Jaguars team.

But from the first whistle the Foxes put their bodies on the line like they have all season, tackling hard and putting the Jaguars on the back foot.

It was the Foxes who started the best with Tahlia ended up 1 on 1 with the keeper but an excellent save from the keeper kept the scores level.

This season the Foxes have build their season on a solid defense and this game was no exception with the Jaguars team finding it almost impossible to get a clear shot on goal.

After a solid 20 mins in the game the Foxes took a blow when Brooke managed to fold herself in half which would be the end of her game taking the Foxes down to just 12 players.

After this incident the game started to become quite open and end to end with Tahlia and Dayna causing the Jaguars defense a lot of problems but unable to capitalize on their chances.

As the game continued on the Foxes ran lower and lower on energy and although defended diligently, they were unable to create any real chances.

The Foxes Goal Keeper made some good saves to keep the scores level as regulation time ended and the Girls ended up going into Extra Time.

Running on empty the Foxes fought for the whole extra time but it was in the 98th minute the Jaguars managed to find the chance they needed breaking through the Foxes defense and running 1 on 1 with Maddie in goals and despite a getting a hand to it just couldn’t keep the shot out of the goal.

This saw the Foxes 1 – 0 down with the last bit of the game to play they threw everyone forward to try and force a goal but were unable to get the luck they needed as the ball ricocheted all over the box but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

It was heart breaking as the Foxes were 90 seconds away from a penalty shootout, but a great effort and good start to the season finally resulted in a loss and the Foxes bowing out of the cup.

This see’s the end of the Women’s B Grade cup run falling in the 2nd round. The girls will look to reload for their Monday night game against Salisbury Inter where they will be looking for their first league win and to leapfrog Inter on the table.

League Round 2

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Rowe Park

Date:  31st March 2023

Location: The Den

The Foxes went into the game against Rowe Park with some payback from last season on the agenda. After last year’s decimation of an 8 – 0 loss the girls were looking to show their improvement from last season and boy they did exactly that.

Frustrating the Rowe Park team and holding them to a 0 – 0 draw coming up with a defensive master class at home on Friday Night.

Right from the start the Foxes had something to prove, they were all over the Rowe Park team, pressing them high and fighting over every ball not giving Rowe park any time in possession to find their dangerous players.

The girls chased hard and fought for every 50/50 ball there was and made sure there was nothing easy given away.

Early in the game saw Jordy in goals pull off some amazing saves to keep the score lines level and it was thanks to the defensive dominance of Steph and Jacinta that the Rowe Park team couldn’t find their way through the goal.

It was mainly long range efforts from the Rowe Park team that was the only option they had left and after a few attempts sprayed wide the Foxes started to gather momentum and push forward in the game.

The midfield pressure lead by Captain Nat who literally put her body on the line for the team (her face) allowed the Foxes to press forward and create a few chances of their own and with a bit of luck on another day probably convert some of their chances.

As the Rowe park legs began to fade the Foxes forward line became more prevalent with Tahlia coming close a few times but the Foxes were unable to take their chances and steal all 3 points.

But the girls put in a mammoth effort to turn around such a big defeat last season to a 0 – 0 draw shows just how far the team has come. The team should be hugely proud of their structure, effort and heart they put on display all game and taking a point from a game that many thought they would lose again comfortably shows the team spirit Coach Matt has installed in his team for the 2023 season.

Excellent game girls.

League Round 1

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s B Grade vs Salisbury Villa

Date:  26th March 2023

Location: Salisbury Villa

After a great start to the season for the B Grade Women last week in the cup they were looking to following it up this weekend with another solid result.

After a shaky start the girls turned it around and put together a great 3 – 3 draw away to a good Salisbury Villa team.

The game started off as an even battle with the neither side giving up much in the midfield. The Foxes were under a bit of pressure but were able to withstand it nicely before a long range shot at the 18th min took a major deflection and wrong footed the keeper.

Maddy the Foxes goal keeper was only able to get a hand to it but was unable to keep it out of the back of the net.

As the game progressed Salisbury Villa grew into the game and started to dictate the ball more and more and a quick breakaway in the 32nd Min saw the lead double to 2 – 0.

But the Foxes rallied and managed to pull 1 back through Georgie in the 37th minute but just as quickly as the Foxes got back into the game Salisbury Villa managed to pull away again after a mistake in the backline where the striker stole the ball and set the foxes in a half time 3 – 1 down.

But half time say the foxes rally and pull together and improve their effort levels and care on the ball and quickly in the 50th minute a well worked goal was put home by Simone who applied the final touch to bring the Foxes back to 3 – 2.

This led to a huge rally from the whole Foxes team with the Defense standing strong and the forward line creating a bunch of chance while the Foxes keeper made countless saves to keep them in the game.

And by the 73rd Minute Tamika hit a long-range banger to beat the keeper and bring the Foxes back level, despite a flurry of chances later in the game the Foxes were unable to put a finishing touch on the game to walk away with the 3 points but a great result to come back from 2 goals down twice to get a draw against a quality Salisbury Villa side.

The effort from the Foxes was amazing and shows the strides forward they are taking to get better and better each week.

It was another great performance from the Women’s B Grade who showed how much they are improving week in week out under their new coach Matt. This weekend see’s the Women’s B Grade take on Rowe Park at home from 6:30PM as they look to continue their great start to the season.

Cup Round 1

Angle Vale Foxes Women’s A Grade vs Aldinga

Date: 17 March 2023

Location: The Den

The seasons fixtures kicked off last Friday night with the B Grade women’s team taking on a travelling Aldinga team at the Den.

It was the introduction of the start of the season for the Senior Foxes and what a way to start the season.

The B Grade Women are entering their 2nd season at the Den and are looking to improve on their results from the previous campaign and it started on as well as anyone could have hoped with a great 3 – 1 win against a young and fast Aldinga team.

The game started at a frantic speed with the Aldinga team running at the Foxes on repetitive attacks but our girls were holding up against the relentless attacks quite well.

Despite the Aldinga girls putting in a goal early on in the 11th minute the Foxes didn’t seem too rattled about this and managed to recoup themselves and managed to pull a goal back in the 34th minute

The 2nd half saw the girls kicking at the Den end and cheered on by the home support behind the goals the Foxes managed to get ahold of the game and started creating excellent counter attack opportunities and eventually capitalized on their chances in the 58th Minute.

To round out the game the Foxes scored in the 76th Minute and put a seal on the Foxes first win for the season and get coach Matt Poole off to the perfect start to his managerial career.

The game ended 3 – 1 and was an excellent showing from the B Grade Women and they will look to get another win this weekend as they look to take on Salisbury Villa away for their first round of league fixtures.
