Saturday A Grade Men's Weekly Write Up

The Angle Vale Foxes Saturday A Grade play in Division 4 and are the newest team to the Foxes lineup. They are looking forward to a solid season and a potential Title Push in 2023.

League Round #18

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Zomi United

Date: 9th September 2023

Location: Away

It was a tough game on the weekend for the Foxes who had to travel to the Andrew Smith Drive Oval again where over the years the foxes have had some tough battles and this weekend was another one to add to that list.

The Foxes would come away with a 3-3 draw and it would leave the Foxes in 4th spot on the table after a super difficult season against some very strong teams in the division.

The Foxes would head into the game knowing a draw or win would mean the Foxes would finish above Zomi and clinch 4th spot in the table.

The game would start off excellent for the Foxes with the ball being controlled by the foxes and some early chances being created.

It would be a break away chance down the right wing that would find Chris who would skin his defender perfectly and his pass inside would find Jareth who would take the perfect first touch that would allow him to have a first time shot and find the far corner with no mistake leaving the keeper stranded.

The rest of the first half would be a tightly fought game with a few chances falling to the Foxes but they would be unable to put them away but Zomi would also be unable to create anything of clear note.

Half time would eventually come around and the Foxes would go in happy with their first 45 minutes and the control they had in the game.

The 2nd half would start similar to the first with the Foxes controlling the ball and creating chances but would struggle to get the ball in the back of the net.

It would be a turnover from the Foxes that would eventually hurt them with 2 50/50 balls would be lost by the Foxes and a good ball into space would find the Zomi striker and he would finish strongly past Dave in goals into the corner of the goal.

This would fire up the sidelines for both teams and this heat would be felt out on the field and eventually it would lead to a penalty shout for the Foxes who would eventually get their way.

Jareth would step up to take the penalty and he would blast his shot straight down the middle of the goal but the Zomi keeper would save the shot with the rebound falling to Jareth again who would miss the follow up chance.

This would spark Zomi into another gear and in a quick 15-minute window they would score 2 more goals and put up a 3 – 1 lead on the Foxes.

But like all year the Foxes didn’t give up the fight, they were never really out of the game and had enough quality on the park to get goals back, and that’s exactly what the lads did.

A deep free kick from Liam would find the head of Tyson whose header would go straight up in the air and a determined to make up for his earlier penalty miss Jareth would get up the highest over the pack and put his header into the corner of the goal.

There wasn’t a lot of time left in the game and with a last-ditch corner for the Foxes a good ball was swung to the back post where Blake would get his header on target and see his saved shot bounce up right on the line. The big boy Tyson would collect 2 Zomi defenders and smother the ball over the line whilst moving them into the net as well.

This would round out a great comeback for the Foxes and the 1 point was enough for the Foxes to clinch 4th spot in an incredibly difficult league which the foxes were in for the first time.

GOAL SCORERS:

Jareth Stocker – 2 Goals

Tyson Gill – 1 Goal

The Foxes took on a lot for the 2023 season with 5 teams for the first time in the club’s history and a fight in Division 4 Saturday which was stacked with 3 super strong teams. The Foxes took the battle to them all season and eventually ended up finishing in 4th spot.

League Round #17

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs BIH United

Date: 2nd September 2023

Location: The Den

The Saturday A Grade would look at their game as their biggest test all season, with sideline support from One Tree Hill who were hoping for the foxes to take some point from the top of the table BIH team. But it would be a bridge to far for the Foxes who went down 3 – 0 after a gallant fight from the Foxes.

The Foxes knew that the game would not be an easy one going up against the top of the table BIH team who were looking to get another win and continue their great form for the season.

The Foxes knew the game would be a very tough one and would go out looking to put everything out on the pitch and not give an inch and that’s exactly what the Foxes did.

Although the foxes were the team out of possession quite a lot, they would fight hard to keep their defense solid.

Eventually the Foxes backline would be broken down with the BIH striker getting a half chance toe poke shot off and that would find the inside of the post and beat Dave in goals.

The foxes would try to push forward a bit more and get the goal back and some good linkup play from Mikey out wide would present the Foxes with a decent chance on goal with a ball between the lines finding Mikey in the box but a great last-ditch tackle from the BIH defender would stop his shot finding the target.

The Foxes would continue their fight back into the game but it would be a front post corner that would find the back of the net for BIH right on half time.

The 2nd half would see the Foxes try and play their way out of the backline a bit more and create some openings up field for their attackers to get onto but the BIH Structure would cause the Foxes a lot of issues and limit their chances on goal.

And eventually the Foxes would concede another goal with a simple over the top ball taking the Foxes backline out of play and the striker would slot past a stranded Dave in goals.

GOAL SCORERS:

N/A

It was a tough day on the pitch for the foxes but a drastically improved performance against a team that got a big 9-3 against the Foxes the first time the 2 teams met. The foxes head away to Zomi looking to get a win and some revenge after their disappointing loss the first time the 2 teams met and finish their season on a high.

League Round #13

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Strathalbyn

Date: 12th August 2023

Location: The Den

The Saturday A Grade got back to their winning ways with a convincing 4 – 0 win against Strathalbyn at home to kick of the weekends winning ways.

It was a harder game than expected with Strath being defensively difficult blocking the Foxes attacks as much as they could but it was the Foxes backline that were unbreakable with Cashy and Travis keeping all the Strath attacks locked down and under control.

It would be an opening goal from Blake that would set the 2 sides apart with a front post corner being swung in that would be flicked into the far corner of the goal.

The foxes would be in complete control of the game from this point onward just peppering the Strath goal with chance after chance and it would be Jareth who would miss a tap in at the back post next, after a good season in front of goal so far this would be one of the easiest chances, he would miss all year.

Ben would step up next though and double the foxes lead with a great ball played in behind the Strath defense by Rylan, Ben would round the goal keeper and finish in the open net continuing his comeback and goal scoring form.

Unfortunately, the Strath defense would stay strong for the remainder of the half keeping the foxes out.

Half time the Foxes would regroup and get themselves back in the game and the Introduction of Callum would introduce another burst of pace up top for the Foxes with Ben and Callum running in behind the Strath high line for fun.

It would then be Mr Tap In Merchant himself Tyson who would give the Foxes their 3rd goal of the day thanks to a Callum square ball played inside the 6-yard box for Tyson to slide in on and finish.

And Callum’s hard work wouldn’t go unrewarded with hitting a snap shot towards goal taking 2 deflections on the way to the keeper and it would bobble over the keeper in goals finishing off the Foxes Day with 4 goals.

The last minute of the game would see a comedy of errors though that would make Tyson wish he could have his time over again with an open ball into the box hit straight at the keeper and the follow up the Strath defenders would all effectively pile on Tyson with Chris’s follow up shot clattering of Tyson and rattling the Crossbar before going out for a goal kick.

The ref had seen enough by that point and that would be the end of the game.

GOAL SCORERS:

Tyson Gill – 1 Goal

Callum Beddall – 1 Goal

Blake Hall – 1 Goal

Ben Hutchins – 1 Goal

It was a good result and a clean sheet for the Foxes, getting them back on the winners list with only 4 games left to play the Foxes will be looking to add some more wins before the end of the season and push up the table as much as they can.

League Round #14

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs St Peters

Date: 5th August 2023

Location: Away

It was a tough day on the pitch for the Saturday A Grade up against a very different St Peters squad that came out ready to fight, hyper physical and very LOUD!!

It would be a stalemate in the end between the 2 teams with the Foxes coming away with a 2-2 draw.

The first 15 minutes of the game would be difficult for the Foxes to get control over with the St Peters team being hyper physical on and off the ball and super loud yelling and screaming from the first kick of the ball.

But after the Foxes would hold them level for that first 15 mins the Foxes would start to get on the ball and control the play.

This control would start to create chances on goal for the Foxes with Jareth missing inside the box from a freekick being swung in.

But not too long afterward another freekick would find its way to Captain Cashy’s feet and he would lash his shot into the side netting.

But this lead would only last 5 minutes with a bit of interplay from St peters where the ball would find their strikers feet who would roll the Foxes CB and have a shot and find the back of the net.

Both teams would head in at half time even as the Foxes would look to refit their team in a different formation to get some more clear chances on goal.

As the half would open the Foxes would start on the front foot with a few quick-fire chances but it would be a mistake from the St Peters defense with the ball falling into space for Jareth to run on to and finish first time past the keeper restoring the Foxes lead.

But just like the first half the Foxe lead would only last 5 minutes before a mistake from the Foxes backline would lead to a chance for St Peters which they would make no mistake in finishing past Dave in goals.

This would be the tale of the game with the remainder of the game both teams being locked in a physical battle unable to create and clear-cut chances.

GOAL SCORERS:

Jamie Cash – 1 Goal

Jareth Stocker – 1 Goal

The result returns the Foxes to 6th place in the table with a home clash against Strathalbyn looming this weekend where they will be looking for a win to back to trying to climb up the table as much as possible for the remainder of the season.

League Round #12

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs One Tree Hill

Date: 22nd July 2023

Location: Away

The Saturday A Grade went into the game against OTH off the back of 2 hard fought games and 2 tough wins with a bit of confidence they could do something against a quality OTH side.

This would not be the case in the end with the Foxes going down 9-3 in a game of 2 halves.

The Foxes would start the first half full of fight and would scare One Tree Hill early on with their pressure and effort with an early chance almost being gifted to the foxes forward line with the OTH Keeper trying to play out the back and almost turning over the ball infront of his goal the kick would send the ball into the air and the resulting header win would lead to a OTH attack down the wing and a nice easy cut back to the peeled off striker would result in his first time effort going past Dave in goals.

This would set off a wave of attacks from the OTH forwards and it would be scrambling defensive work that would somehow see the ball stay out of the Foxes goal.

After settling down and working their way back into the game the Foxes would mount a few attacks of their own and it would be an Ethan solo run where he would beat his defender 1 on 1 and get around him into a dangerous spot inside the box and would find a great cut back ball to Callum who would be given a bunch of free space in the OTH Box and he would swivel and shoot and score to bring the game level.

This would set of the OTH team and for the next 8 mins they would mount wave after wave of attacks and again the Foxes would spend their whole time defending on the back foot trying to keep the ball out of their net.

Eventually their defense would be broken with a perfectly placed ball over the top from the midfield that would turn the Foxes defense around and eventually be put in the Foxes goal.

And it would be a quick fire second with some slick interplay from the OTH wide men burning the Foxes defense and a close-range header would be put in.

This would bring the foxes to half time and they would go in feeling good about being close and the chances they had made and if they were to tighten up their backline a bit more, they would be able to get back into the game.

But the 2nd half would be OTH running through the Foxes defense and scoring for fun and it would be 4 unanswered goals in 20 mins that would sink the Foxes.

But the goal of the game would go to young Hudson who has a knack of popping up and scoring long range worldies and he would be on the left wing and send a long range effort over the OTH keeper who would be off his line and would give the Foxes their 2nd of the day.

But these were quickly hit back by OTH with another 2 goals hit in reply.

But at the Death another Foxes chance would open up with the OTH keeper playing the ball into perennial goal poacher Jareth’s feet and he would score again to keep his goal scoring season going.

But it would be nothing but a consolation goal with the game ending up 9-3.

GOAL SCORERS:

Jareth Stocker – 1 Goal

Hudson Ocampo – 1 Goal

Callum Beddall – 1 Goal

The foxes now have a weekend break with the cup round ahead and across the club its needed with the number of injuries starting to pile up and effect the teams below the Sunday A grade.

Once they are back in action the Saturday A Grade will look to take on Prince Alfred and return to their winning ways and look to finish off the season strong.

League Round #11

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Southern Breakers

Date: 15th July 2023

Location: The Den

After a great performance from the Saturday B’s the A Grade would look to get revenge on Southern Breakers who beat them 4-3 on their away trip down Port Elliott.

But this time round the Foxes would show their fight, determination and the Foxes Spirit to come away clutch 2-1 winners.

The game would start off very tight with both teams scrapping for chances but unable to get a clear-cut chance on goal.

The return of Dave in goals in the last couple weeks has really made a big difference with the Southern Breakers speedy winger breaking past the fox’s backline and big Dave would get his bear paw to the ball to keep the scores level.

This would be a sign of things to come with Dave making a series of amazing saves throughout the day to deny the Breakers forward line.

But it would be the Foxes who would take the lead first with a bouncing ball ending up in the box and Jareth would get his foot to the ball first before being taken out by the Breakers defender and selling the foul perfectly to be awarded the penalty.

After some sledging from the Breakers team about his diving ability he would step up and hit his penalty top right past the keeper and give the keeper a lesson in how to properly dive in the box.

This would be right on the stroke of half time giving the Foxes a slight edge heading into the 2nd half of the game. After a team talk about keeping their lines tight and fighting hard till the end it would take less than 1 minute from the restart for the foxes to concede and Southern Breakers would bring the game level.

But where in the past the foxes would crumble under the waves of attacks from the opponent the last 2 weeks the Foxes have dug deep and defended with their lives putting their bodies on the lines to die for their team mates.

With a little help from Big Dave in goals pulling of some miraculous saves the Foxes would fight through the whole 2nd half staying level and even creating a batch of chances of their own which they were unable to convert.

It wouldn’t be until the 85th Minute that the Foxes would find the break through, a lung bursting run down the left win from Jareth would result in him cutting the ball back to Callum who had been scrapping alongside Jareth up top all game, his shot would be firstly thought to be saved by the keeper but in fact would spill out his hands and right into the Tap in God himself Tyson who would score from 2 yards out.

Scenes would erupt from this goal with the Foxes ecstatic about taking the lead but the next 5 minutes of the game would be agonizing and full of Foxes flying into tackles and throwing themselves at every challenge and shot to keep the score line 2-1.

After a final top corner diving save from big Dave in the dying seconds of the game the full-time whistle would go and the Foxes would get their hard-fought revenge.

GOAL SCORERS:

Jareth Stocker – 1 Goal

Tyson Gill – 1 Goal

The result was a very tough hard fought one but one the Foxes deserved after throwing everything they had at the Southern Breakers team.

The 3 points moves them up to 5th place with a big showdown against One Tree Hill to come this weekend.

League Round #10

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Old Ignatians

Date: 1st July 2023

Location: Away

It was a return to form for the Saturday A Grade in a tough fought battle coming back from 3 – 2 down to get up 4 – 3 winners in the last few minutes of the game.

The game started off well for the Foxes in what was basically a slip and slide on the edge of the box with the wet weather destroying the pitch and turning it into a mud bath.

Despite the terrible pitch conditions the Foxes were the younger, faster, fitter and more skilled on the ball team and it showed with some early exchanges of play with the Foxes creating some great early chances with a goal line clearance from a corner the only thing denying a Foxes lead.

It wouldn’t take to much longer for the Foxes to make the break through though with a wide ball played to Ben who would square to Ethan who would find his first shot saved but the follow up would fall to Chris who would tap home into the open net to give the Foxes a 1-0 lead.

But as per usual the game wouldn’t be an easy one for the Foxes with a long throw headed on by Voldemort which would loop over Dave in goals and the Iggy’s winger would put the ball in the net from close range.

The foxes would continue to battle with Ben getting on the score sheet to restore the Foxes lead again in the 40th minute after a counter attack a through ball into space by Jareth, Ben would make no mistakes rounding the keeper and finishing into the open net.

But again 4 minutes later a mistake at the back would lead to a Chad own goal making it 2-2 at half time.

The 2nd half would start of with Old Ignatians having more control of the ball and creating more chances and this would culminate in a penalty for a handball in the box against the Foxes.
But the penalty god of the Foxes Dave would step up and intimidate the opponent enough, and the fact the penalty was taken from inside a swamp would mean the penalty would go over the bar saving the Foxes.

It would be at the 60th minute where Old Ignatians would take the lead of the game for the first time and it would be some slick 1 touch passing into a volley that would beat Dave in goals and this is where the day would start to go downhill for the Foxes.

With Ben diving in studs up on a tackle and the situation getting heated it would result in Ben receiving a Red Card and putting the Foxes down to 10 men for the remainder of the game.

With 25 minutes still to play the Foxes would weather a few chances but it was the young substitutes that would come on and make the difference for the Foxes.

With more space up front the Foxes would create more open chances on the break with Hudson and Chris linking up down the left wing and a spearing ball to the back post that would be 2 defenders and the keeper would find Jareth who was waiting to tap the ball into the open net to restore parity in the game.

But the Foxes weren’t done yet, even a man down and tired the Foxes would continue to fight and go for the Win and it would be a Liam freekick that would like always be right on the mark.

His freekick would find Jareth falling off the back of the defender taking a first touch away from the keeper and smashing the ball home from close range and ending up tangled in the net like Spiderman.

The Foxes had restored their lead and showed their fight and determination to get back into the game and the last 5 minutes would show how hungry they were with everyone putting the bodies on the line to stop chances from the Old Ignatians team while a 5th goal and hat-trick for Jareth was incorrectly ruled offside but by that point the game was complete.

The Foxes had dug deep and got the win and a well deserved one after a rough few weeks. prior.

GOAL SCORERS:

Ben Hutchins – 1 Goal

Chris Saliba – 1 Goal

Jareth Stocker – 2 Goals

The Foxes now have a weekend break for the cup round but there will be plenty of effort and energy expended on the training park in preparation for a tough game at home against Southern Breakers who narrowly beat the Foxes in their away fixture.

League Round #9

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Zomi United

Date: 24th June 2023

Location: The Den

In what is a bad run of form for the Saturday A Grade currently they would proceed to go down 4-1 against a tough, quick and aggressive Zomi United team.

The game would start of rough for the Saturday A Grade with the Zomi showing off their speed and off ball movement to get ahead early.

This would be the problem of the day for the Foxes with the off-ball work rate being higher from the Zomi team causing the Foxes problems in the midfield.

It would only take 10 minutes for the Foxes to find themselves behind with a defense splitting pass to the Zomi winger beating Michael to the ball and putting it past him.

The Foxes would find themselves 2-0 by the 30 min mark with a poorly defender corner to the front post being smashed home by the Zomi attacker.

6 minutes later a over the top ball would find the Zomi winger get inside the Foxes box and unleash a shot which would go through Michaels hands and into the back of the net to make it 3 -0.

Half time would give the Foxes a chance to discuss their failings and try to close the gap with their opponent.

And it would be the Foxes who would strike back first with a well taken corner finding Gary’s head to nod home to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

By the 70th minute a deep free kick would find its way to the Zomi winger who would unleash a worlding into the top corner of the goal to make it 4-1.

This is where the game would end up with the Foxes going down again.

GOAL SCORERS:

Gary Case – 1 Goal

The result see’s the Foxes firmly in mid table and will be looking to turn their season around this weekend against Old Ignatians.

League Round #8

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs BIH United

Date: 17th June 2023

Location: Away

The Saturday went from great to bad really quick with the A Grade going down 9 – 3 against an extremely good BIH First team showing why they are top of the table.

The game would start very quickly for BIH as they would gain control of the ball and game within the first few minutes with a great ball to their winger, he would beat the Foxes backline and finish quickly in the Foxes goal.

This would be the start of a very long day for the Foxes. With the BIH Forward line having a field day linking up and connecting with eachother excellently turning around the fox’s team on multiple occasions.

There wasn’t much the Foxes could cling too in the first half that was positive other than a good corner swung in late in the half which would be finished at the back post by Aidan Jones to decrease the deficit by 1 goal heading into the break.

After a half time team talk and some tactical changes the Foxes would look to come out in the 2nd half a better side but this would not be the case with BIH coming out in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half and would put another 2 goals past the Foxes in quick succession.

After some more changes for both teams the Foxes would stem the bleeding a bit and manage to pull another goal back after a cut back from Jareth would find Ethan who would score from just inside the box.

To top off a great game in the B Grade ben would find himself on the end of a corner at the back post and he would score to get 4 goals for the day.

But overall, for the foxes it was a rough day on the park against an exceptional BIH Team who showed exactly why they are top of the league.

GOAL SCORERS:

Aidan Jones – 1 Goal

Ethan Shepheard – 1 Goal

Ben Hutchins – 1 Goal

The Foxes will look to get back to winning ways this weekend at home against ZOMI ad try to stabilize their season and push for a top 3 spot.

League Round #2 (Catch up)

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Southern Breakers

Date: 3rd June 2023

Location: Away

Unlike the B Grade the trip down south was not as fun for the Saturday A Grade where they ended up going down 4 – 3.

The game started off super difficult for the foxes where nothing they tried seemed to be working.

The Foxes would find themselves pinned into their own half always defending wave after wave of Southern Breakers attacks.

And it wouldn’t be long before the foxes would find themselves down 1 – 0 thanks to the Southern Breakers striker showing his skill and speed on the ball and a great finish past the Foxes keeper.

And this momentum would continue for the Breakers as they would unleash a shot from their midfield and find the net again.

The foxes would head in at half time looking to change up the way the game was being played and a tactical change would see this happen with a midfield change up giving the Foxes greater control and the ball at their feet and able to create some chances of their own.

The Foxes break through would come from a deep free kick from Gary that would find the head of Mickey at the back post who would finish past the keeper to get the Foxes back in the game.

This would lift the spirits of the Foxes and a few more chances would come the way of the Foxes but they would be unable to convert them to get them on level terms.

This inability to convert would cost the Foxes as the Breakers would find the back of the net again restoring their 2-goal lead.

The Foxes wouldn’t give up though with a ball into the box being handballed by the Southern Breakers defender and Chris would step up and convert his effort putting it past the outstretched keeper who picked the right direction but was unable to stop the shot.

Again this would give the Foxes the momentum but again the Breakers would take their chance with the Breakers striker out sprinting the Foxes CB’s and finishing past the Foxes keeper to restore the 2 goal lead.

Another cross into the box would be handballed by the Breakers defender and another penalty would be awarded and again Chris would step up and this time put it the other side of the keeper and bring the deficit back to just 1 goal but the Foxes would run out of time and be unable to bridge the gap between the 2 teams.

The fight and desire for the Foxes was there again especially in the 2nd half but they were unable to bridge the poor first halves result.

GOAL SCORERS:

Chris Saliba – 2 Goals

Michael Trimboli – 1 Goal

The results see’s the foxes head into the long weekend break at a 4 wins 3 loss record and sitting mid table. They will be looking to get back to their earlier winning ways and take some wins against the teams above them to climb up the table.

League Round #7

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Esplanade FC

Date: 27th May 2023

Location: The Den

It was a long hard slog for the foxes this weekend and eventually succumbed to Esplanade 3 – 2 after a tough battle in the mixed conditions.

The game would get off to the perfect start for the Foxes with another keeping error giving the home team the lead after a couple of minutes with Jareth closing down the keeper and he proceeded to kick the ball into his out stretched leg to give them the 1 – 0 lead.

The Foxes would then stay in control of the game for the next 20 minutes creating chances but unable to put the ball in the back of the net, that was until a Corner swung in by Chris who found Corey’s head and the keeper would make a great save to keep the ball out. The resulting spill would mean the ball would find the feet of Liam outside the box and he would unload one of his trademark long range efforts and give himself a goal of the month contender and give the Foxes the 2 -0 lead early in the 1st half.

The Foxes would hold their lead until 5 minutes before half time when a Cashy turn over on the edge of the Box would result in him loosing his footing tripping over and using his body to clean up the Esplanade striker inside the penalty area and give away the penalty.

The Esplanade striker would step up and despite Michael going the right direction he had enough on his shot to see it hit the back of the net.

Half time would see the Foxes make some changes to their team and 1 of which was a defensive change seeing Jareth put into RB, this change would eventually cost the foxes a goal with the Esplanade winger proving a handful and a turnover from an attack on the edge of the Esplanade box would see the Foxes get hit on a counter and exploit the space vacated by Jareth at RB and the winger would isolate Cashy and find a pass inside to his striker, a good block by Gary would knock the ball away but only into the path of the on running midfielder who would smash a shot past Michael in goal and bring both teams level.

The game would stay tied for all of the 2nd half right up until the final few minutes of the game where a freekick would be awarded to Esplanade outside the 18 yard box. The Esplanade midfielder would step up and smash his shot to the far post where Michael would get his hand on it but not enough to keep it out of his goal and the shot would go off the inside of the post and in to seal the 3 – 2 loss for the Foxes.

 GOAL SCORERS:

Jareth Stocker

Liam Lord

The result breaks a good streak of wins for the Foxes who managed to push themselves up to 5th on the table.

They now head all the way down South to take on the Southern Breakers who are 3rd on the ladder with a win throwing them up to 3rd place.

League Round #6

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs FC Summit

Date: 20th May 2023

Location: Away

After the shoot out the B Grade underwent the A Grade were looking for a more composed and controlled game to continue their great start to the season.

The game would start off as badly as it could have with the wet conditions and slippery ball causing havoc. FC Summit would whip a ball across the box and Dan would scoop clear the ball and spin it past Michael in the goal giving FC Summit a 1 – 0 lead within 2 mins.

But the Foxes would not let this be the tone of the day and would gain control of the game back with some excellent defensive work from the Foxes backline stopping FC Summits advances forward.

It would be a Liam free kick that would bring the teams back level, Liam has an excellent free kick technique, and the FC Summit keeper could not get anywhere near the ball.

It would be a Tyson long throw that would give the Foxes the lead with Jareth going up for the header and causing the distraction with the ball landing at the feet of Chris who would steady himself and take a couple touches before hitting the ball past the keeper and defenders blocking the line.

And to round out the first half Tyson would knock home another goal this season continuing his great start to the season in the Saturday division.

After a half time chat and some changes on the field the Foxes would continue making some chances in the 2nd half, but the forward line quality was lacking, and they were unable to convert their chances to extend their lead.

It would be in the 60th minute that FC Summit would get another goal and cause the pressure to build for the Foxes, but once again the Foxes resilience would show up and they would absorb the repeated FC Summit attacks and keep the ball out of the goal.

A last-minute chance would come for the Foxes with a deflected shot landing just wide of Jareth in the box and he would reach only to put the ball over the bar.

But the Foxes would hold out and get themselves a hard fought 3 points on the road.

GOAL SCORERS:

Chris Saliba – 1 Goal

Tyson Gill – 1 Goal

Liam Lord – 1 Goal

The Foxes are back home this weekend against Esplanade United and will be looking to lock up their 3rd position on the table and line themselves up for a 2nd half of the season push for promotion.

League Round #5

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Prince Alfred

Date: 13th May 2023

Location: The Den

the saturday A Grade men would go into the game against prince Alfred looking to continue their winning and goal scoring form and stay near the promotion spots.

This would be exactly what would happen with the Foxes winning 6-2

The game would be a dominant one from the A Grade as they controlled the possession and chances in the game.

Although in what is looking like a trend they gave up a couple of goals to make the clean sheet tally stay the same.

Tyson would add 2 goals to his already growing tally of the season one of which would be an actual shot from outside the box rather than a tap in which he is commonly known for.

Mikey would also have an excellent game coming up with 2 goals for his efforts on the field and rounding out a great performance.

The other goals would go to Ethan who is also in a rich vein of goal scoring form while Chris would find the back of the net as well and look to get himself on track and challenge for the leading scorer title.

GOAL SCORERS:

Tyson Gill – 2 Goals

League Round #4

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Strathalbyn

Date: 6th May 2023

Location: Away

After the B Grades massive win, the A Grade would look to continue the goal scoring day and wash away last weekends loss in similar fashion.

And this would happen as well with the foxes coming away 6-1 winners and getting back to their goal scoring ways and in the winners’ bracket.

The game would start off just as quick with Blake getting the Foxes off to an early lead in the 13th minute with him scoring on the goal line from a corner whipped in to the back post.

But after this goal he would quickly be taken off with an injury sustained in an defensive effort down the other end.

And this would make a period where the Foxes would struggle to break down the Strath defense.

It wouldn’t be until the 32nd minute where Tyson would pop up and score one of his predatory tap in goals that would double the Foxes lead.

It would be the goal scoring machine Lucas who would continue his great run of goal scoring form to the start the season getting on the score sheet again after just 3 minutes from Tysons goal.

This would give the Foxes a solid 3 – 0 lead heading into half time.

After a few positional changes for the 2nd half the Foxes would find their rhythm again and get back on the goal scoring sheet with Ethan scoring his first for the day.

But Strath would eventually rally and get a goal back not long after and scare the Foxes for 5 minutes of pressure.

But a 2nd Ethan goal from the penalty spot would calm everyone down and then Lucas would pop up 2 minutes later scoring a great instinctive goal at the back post after a wayward shot would seemingly go wide except for Lucas who was alert and ready to pounce and put the ball in the goal.

The Foxes searched for a 7th goal but were unable to find the back of the net but it was a great effort from the Foxes coming away from their long trip with a solid rebound win and gets their season back on track.

GOAL SCORERS:

Lucas Harris-Semmler – 2 Goals

Ethan Shepherd – 2 Goals

Tyson Gill – 1 Goal

Blake Hall – 1 Goal

The Foxes will now head back to the Den this weekend looking to get back-to-back wins as they take on the winless Prince Alfred team.

A win would put themselves into the top 3 fight and a possible promotion contention for the season, so the team will be looking for a solid showing and good result.

League Round #3

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs One Tree Hill

Date: 29th April 2023

Location: The Den

After the decimation of the reserves occurred, the expectation was on for the A Grade to redeem the day.

And when the giant monsters stepped on the field looking twice as big as our youthful Foxes the signs did not look great.

With the One Tree Hill striker literally twice the size of some of our players it was going to be a tough day competing in the air with any real effectiveness.

And in the first half this would be the problem, although the Foxes would compete all over the pitch with their effort, physicality and passing and speed it would be the 2nd ball wins that would cost the Foxes.

With the First goal coming from a corner after the Foxes won the first header the follow up would be headed into the ground and past the keeper.

Then 10 minutes later the One Tree Hill team would score again from another set piece and make the lead 2 – 0.

Half time Coach Will would make some changes to the squad to try and turn things around and a lift in effort, fight and desire would see the foxes create some excellent chances with OTH starting to make some mistakes in the backline.

The best of the lot would fall to Chris would receive a backheel pass that would put him 1 on 1 with the keeper only to beat the keeper but hit the crossbar.
This miss would change the mood of the team with the Foxes effort levels dropping after a handful of missed chances.

The experience and class of the OTH Team would shine through as they would score a 3rd goal and this would break the spirits of the Foxes and more and more mistakes would start to creep into the Foxes game.

It wouldn’t take long for the OTH Team to pile on the misery and score 3 more quick fire goals to close out a very disappointing performance from the Foxes in the game and across the whole day.

GOAL SCORERS:

None

It was a terrible loss for the Saturday A Grade who have not taken a beating like that since their creation at the start of the year. But more can be learned from a loss than a win and the foxes will take this loss and the footage collected to the training ground and learn from it and build upon it to get back on the winners list.

The Foxes now head to Strathalbyn looking for some redemption and some goals to get their spirits back up and push back up the table.

League Round #1

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Old Ignatians

Date: 15th April 2023

Location: The Den

Just like the Reserves prior to them the Saturday A Grade got off to an excellent start to the season coming away 2 – 1 winner against a strong, experienced and very physical Old Ignatians team.

The game started in a flurry with the weather playing havoc on both teams, swirling wind, rain and then sunshine caused the game to start off frantically with a Liam interception from an Iggys attack which led to a perfectly weighted through ball to young Lucas who has started on fire this season going 1 on 1 with the keeper, despite his first attempt being saved was able to knock home the follow up shot and put the Foxes 1 – 0 up within 15 Minutes.

But the lead only managed to last 10 minutes when a crazy moment from goal keeper Dave led to him coming out 1 on 1 with the Iggy’s attacker and cleaning out his leg and giving away a penalty which the Iggys striker slotted away past Dave.

But it was a moment of specialty that only club legend Cashy could do when a pulled back ball 30 yards out was squared to Cashy who hit it first time and looped it into the far top corner giving the Foxes the lead back after 35 minutes.

After half time the foxes came out and were looking to get more assertive on the ball but were being forced on the back foot and on the counter attack a lot more.

The lads would run their legs off closing down shot after shot from the Iggy’s forward line who threw 4 up top to try and convert something to get themselves back in the game and nearly did in the 65th min when the Iggy striker chipped the ball over keeper Dave and if not for Captain Cashy on the goal line clearing the ball it would have been level.

A few minutes later it was Blake the other CB taking a bullet for his team blocking a shot destined for the top corner with his head and sending it out for a corner showing the desperation the team had for the win.

A couple of really good attacks down the other end which should have been converted by the Foxes attackers should have relived the pressure especially a nice attacking piece of play which led to a nice cutback opportunity for Liam to put the ball in the goal only to get it stuck under his feet.

But the gritty defending and desire showed through with the Foxes holding on and getting the win to start their season off as well as they could of hoped.

GOAL SCORERS:

Lucas Harris-Semmler

Jamie Cash

It was the perfect start to the season for the Saturday teams coming away with 2 wins from 2 games to kick off their league season as well as they could of hoped.

The A Grade head away to Southern Breakers this weekend in the longest trip the foxes will have to do all season and will be looking to continue this excellent start to the season.

Cup Round 1

Angle Vale Foxes Men’s A Grade vs Adelaide Dragons

Date: 25 March 2023

Location: The Den

Just like the Saturday B Grade this was the Saturday A Grade’s first proper hitout for the season and what a game of football it was. A Red card a Missed Penalty, 2 crossbars hit and Extra Time this game had it all except for a Foxes win.

The game started with some dramatic scenes across the board within the first 2 minutes of the game a defensive error from Blake who let the ball run across his body in the box was stolen by the Dragons Striker and slotted home past a stranded Michael in goals.

But the Foxes hit them right back within 6 minutes with the youngster Lucas blazing down the Left Wing and cutting inside and lashing a left foot shot past the Dragons keeper to make it level after 10 minutes.

15 Minutes later Blake atoned for his earlier mistake and managed to win a penalty for the Foxes after being fouled in the box by the Dragons keeper from a Foxes free kick.

Chris stepped up to put the Foxes ahead but put the penalty kick wide.

The game seemed to be evenly matched after that right up until the last 5 minutes of the first half where the Dragons CB dragged down the Foxes striker who was running 1 on 1 with the keeper and got himself a straight red card giving the Foxes the advantage.

This was only the first half of action with the rest of the game continuing on with the drama. The second half saw both teams looking for the counter attack winner with the Dragons playing a man down and looking for quick in behind plays while the Foxes tried to build up and play into the wide spaces.

Despite a flurry of late chances in the game where the Dragons keeper pulled off some excellent saves the game ended up going into Extra Time.

By this time both teams were running on fumes and it was a slog with both team’s counter attacking one another with the Foxes hitting the woodwork twice and Michael the Foxes goal keeper pulling of a string of saves to keep the game level. As the game looked more likely to end up as a penalty shootout it was here where the Dragons struck the fatal blow exposing the Foxes backline with a lucky deflection that landed at the wingers feet 1 on 1 with Michael in goals and put it into the side netting.

With just a few minutes left to play the Foxes didn’t stop and kept pushing and with what would ultimately be the last play of the game created a great chance with a cutback ball into the Dragons box with didn’t end up getting converted into a goal and that would be game.

The Foxes put up a hell of a fight and it was an excellent game to watch from the sideline and showed where the foxes need to work on as they head into the season in a couple weeks.

The foxes have a couple weeks off now as they look to prepare for the start of the season on the 15th April where they will take on Old Ignatians at home.
